Hello, there.

A little bit about me…my name is Jennifer, and the kitchen is my happy place. By the time I was six, I could make tea. I’d bring it to my sleeping mother, or send my little brother with it to wake her, knowing it made the start to her day better. Growing up, family always gathered in the kitchen-talking, laughing. The kitchen is the heart of the home. I watched my mother, uncle, and grandmother, and learned to cook without explicit lesson.

Every family meal was more than food to me. It was love, togetherness, happiness, healing. Food elicits mood, provides nourishment and feeds both the body and the soul. Soup at the first sign of sniffles, and before long...the mere smell of that soup becomes medicinal. Favorite home cooked meal for your birthday. A treat after a hard day. A holiday table representing everyone’s favorites. A healthful post-workout meal to heal the body and help it grow. For me, my cooking is the vehicle for my thoughtfulness, an expression of my love, and delicious, tangible, proof that I care.

I began eating and cooking plant based (vegan) foods about five years ago when I learned about the impact of meat and dairy on health and the environment, and began to rework my knowledge in the kitchen to accommodate a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle. Everything on my menu is vegan, and most of the menu can be made to cater to allergies, food restrictions, and preferences.

Those I love are my world, and I stew and steam and knead and mix that love into everything that comes from my kitchen. I bring that love to you and yours, from Jenny’s Plate. Enjoy!
